The local expert source for computer networks and support to fit your needs
On October 22, 2010, Computer and Notebook suppliers will no longer be able to pre-install Windows XP on new computers and notebooks. However they will provide the Driver support for Windows XP till December 2012.
XP has been available for 9 years and 2 months. This is the only operating system which had a long journey. The OS was originally planned to be phased out in October of 2007, but saw considerable demand due to the slow adoption of Windows Vista and the emergence of netbooks, which were not powerful enough to run Windows Vista. Eventually, XP ended up with a 98% market share in 2008.
This has changed with the advent of the new Windows 7 operating system. An improvement to Windows XP is finally here with a slew of long-awaited refinements, including: better performance, a new and easier to use desktop, a new snap display feature, useful display “gadgets,” an easier to use device manager, a powerful universal search, 32-bit and very fast 64-bit operation, and better driver and hardware compatibility. Windows 7 is truly an advance over Windows XP.
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER
I would also like to remind people who are still running Windows XP that as of July 13th, 2010, Windows XP SP2 will also reach the end of support. You will need to install the latest service pack available (Windows XP Service Pack 3) via the Microsoft Update website or look at moving to Windows 7 to be running a supported version of Windows. Support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 will continue through April 2014.
